Grizzly Park Wide Open
Lower Terrain Park Takes New Approach

Skiing BanffBanff, Alberta - Nearly 12 acres and 50 features of the Rogers Terrain Park will be up and running Sunday January 31 when the Grizzly Terrain Park opens for the season.

Trail crew have been working furiously in the past few days, finishing off the kickers, boxes and rails in the lower half of the popular park.

With its location in Banff National Park, Sunshine Village must build its terrain park features entirely of natural snow. Using its industry leading technique of snow farming, trail crew members have been capturing snow so that the 10 park crew members can build the features.

The Grizzly Park is taking a new and novel approach this year, emphasizing easy to moderate features. “It’s not just for experts,” says Zack Hutchings, the terrain park’s grooming foreman. “It’s more of a fun concept.

“It’s the kind of thing where almost anyone can go in there and have some fun.”

Included in the new area are three hips, a small jump, nine rails and boxes, plus a wall ride. One unique feature is the black-and-yellow water tank that has been reused in the park. Because of its colour, it’s nicknamed the Bumblebee.

“The Rogers Terrain Park is known as one of the best of its kind in the country,” says Doug Firby, Associate Director of Communications. “We offer the perfect balance between challenging features and safety.”

Hard-working trail crew to continue work on adding more features to the Grizzly area. When done, the Rogers Terrain Park will have more than 50 features.

Early in the coming week, park crew will unveil a major new feature at the bottom of the park.
