The Banff Hot Springs have a lot to say in the origins of Banff National Park.
The Cave and Basin discovery lead to government intervention to ensure that all Canadians and visitors could equally enjoy the pleasures of the hot soothing mineral waters found at the base of Sulphur Mountain. This was done with the establishment of Banff National Park and the birth of Canada's National Parks system in 1885.
Today, Banff visitors can enjoy the Upper Hot Springs located further up Mountain Avenue on Sulphur Mountain. This breathtaking location lets you soothe and bathe in the recuperative hot mineral waters while enjoying the stunning view of Rundle Mountain and the Bow Valley.
How the water actually gets heated is quite a geological story that involves surface water seeping deep into the earth and then re-surfaces many years later.
No trip to Banff is complete without a visit to the Banff Hot Springs. Modern facilities in a restored heritage building provide comfortable changing facilities, showers and wellness services.
