For every skier that every looked enviously at snowboarders in their warm, comfy boots or struggled with hard, cold, uncomfortable ski boots, salvation may be at hand. Remember the rear-entry Hanson boot of decades ago that controlled flex by restricting how the upper shell split apart and used a type of wax fitting system? It was an innovative approach at the time and now Denny Hanson, co-founder of the original Hanson Industries Inc. has done it again with the revolutionary Apex ski boot. Inspired by snowboard boots and discouraged by traditional boots, Hanson says there hasn’t been any significant progress in ski boot design for 15 years and he plans to change that with his new product. It’s a two-part boot that marries a warm comfortable inner boot with a rigid outer structure for the demands of skiing.
Apex is the first carbon fiber ski boot but has other unique features as well. The carbon fiber outer frame incorporates canting and flex adjustments. The heat-moldable, exposed inner boot is warm and comfortable. The inner boot also features a tread for walking and a lacing system for consistent tension that doesn’t loosen during skiing. Hanson says you will look forward to putting the Apex on because finally this is a boot that has room for all your toes. And thanks to high-tech materials, Apex weighs 20% less than traditional boots.
Apex Sports Group is a sports product design and development company based in Boulder, Colorado. Two years of research and development took the Apex boot from wishful thinking to a new product that will be on shelves for the 2008/09 season.
