After more than 20 years working in research and development for Rossignol, Alain Zanco founded AZ Atelier for the purpose of offering totally custom made skis.
Apparently the customer can specify every dimension and nuance of the ski and AZ will make a pair to those exact specifications. Delivery takes about a month and only about 300 pairs per year are forecast. It’s fair to say most skiers have no idea what flex or dimensions are best for them, that’s why experts design skis, but AZ customers can have whatever input they deem necessary including cosmetics whether it be leather, diamonds or commissioned art.
This kind of exclusivity comes at a price — about 10,000 Euros per pair. Hopefully AZ Atelier spends some of that money on a real translator for their English site. “Produce customized skis is supply each skier with the possibility of the perfect feeling of the glide” leaves too much room for the imagination. Skis can be ordered online or via a small group of “partner retailers.”
