Things To Do In Banff

Johnston Canyon

You can walk along the Canyon listening the water and feeling the breeze.  There is a paved walkway to the second waterfalls about 3 Km one way.  You will see ancient water erosion of the canyon and see how long it took to what we see now.  For your convenience there is a restaurant and gift shop.  There might be an ice cream stand during the summer time.   Weekends are very busy, but shouldn't pose a problem.

Johnston Canyon is located on the 1A (see above) and it’s about a 30 minute drive from Banff.  You can also drive Highway 1 and take Castle Mountain junction to the right.  Cross the train tracks and turn right on to the 1A.  In about 5 minutes you will see the sign on your left.

Johnston Canyon is open all year round and during the Winter some tour companies offer ice walk tours here.  No facilities are open for Winter season.  March 1 to June 25  2009, after 6 pm you should take Highway 1 to get to 1A rather than coming from East entrance.
